A muddy Descent makes for challenging conditions

Avon Valley Advocate

Low water levels in the Avon River have meant more than half of this year’s Avon Descent power boat competitors did not finish the race.

Only 17 of the 45 power boat teams made it across the finish line of the two-day event, which left Northam last Saturday morning.

There was similar success rates for the paddle-craft competitors, with 116 of 159 competitors crossing the finish line in both Toodyay and Bayswater.

Shire of Northam president Chris Antonio said the challenging conditions made for an exciting event.
