THE RACE

The Avon Challenge is conducted by Canoeing WA in association with the Northam’s Avon Descent Association (NADA). The race is open to junior paddlers from schools, clubs, other organisations and individuals. We encourage the Junior Paddlers in kayaks, Canadian canoes, and surf skis to hit the water and take part. As with previous years, Adults and juniors in Dragon Boats, Outriggers and on Stand Up Paddlers (SUP’s) are invited to participate.

The Avon Challenge will be held on the Swan River, over the last 15 kilometres of the Avon Descent course.

In the individual race (the iron-person), competitors will paddle the complete race, with no changeovers, stops, or portages.

In the two-stage team relay, each competitor paddles one of the two stages. At the changeover point the pair passes the number bib at marked check point.

In the three-stage team relay, each competitor paddles one of the three stages. At each of the two changeovers, the team passes the number bib at the check points.
